Kiran,

I am not sure I agree with this assessment.
Most products today which need to be interoperable are to some level developed by committee - SIP is done by IETF, some of it by MPEG and the ITU, etc.
The problem with Android might be the fact that the committee is going up the food chain a bit too much, but software by committee is quite common in any telecom product.

It seems to me that you are right on in this assessment. Every time I read an article about Android that involves its features/UI/etc. there's always this big caveat about how "it hasn't been worked on by visual designers yet, so don't judge the user experience." That's all just BS. Visual design or not, we would know if the user's experience was being taken into account, and it doesn't seem to be so.

It's too bad that Google's name may be a bit sullied by the Android experience. I, like you, hope that we're both proven wrong. I'd be the first in line for an open source alternative to the iPhone.

Hey Josh,

I have to try the $100 box for netflix. I watched the Contract last night and it started playing instantly but 25mins in it just hung (my connection was fine) and stalled for about 15 mins before it started playing again. It seemed like buggy software you ask me, although, it could be RCN playing foul with the connection to Netflix.

My point though is a bunch of hackers are providing much better interfaces to video than the entire 200 person overpaid team at Netflix. Their dvd delivery service is awesome and they're good at that - probably the best ever at delivering dvd's by post. But dude - that's like showing up dressed like a hair-rocker in a Nine Inch Nails concert.

I agree with 1 of your criticisms (IE only is lame) and will add another, the selection of movies that are watch-now-able is not great. However I think that overall it is a good service. They don't charge extra for it. It is fast (no buffering at my house on a crappy AT&T DSL) and simple to use. Most of those free services you list are a pain and illegal.

Have you seen the 100$ box netflix sells that lets you watch the watch-now movies on your tv? I think that is an incredible deal.
