I am not sure I agree with this assessment.
Most products today which need to be interoperable are to some level developed by committee - SIP is done by IETF, some of it by MPEG and the ITU, etc.
The problem with Android might be the fact that the committee is going up the food chain a bit too much, but software by committee is quite common in any telecom product.</description>

Every time I read an article about Android that involves its features/UI/etc. there's always this big caveat about how "it hasn't been worked on by visual designers yet, so don't judge the user experience." That's all just BS. Visual design or not, we would know if the user's experience was being taken into account, and it doesn't seem to be so.

It's too bad that Google's name may be a bit sullied by the Android experience. I, like you, hope that we're both proven wrong. I'd be the first in line for an open source alternative to the iPhone.</description>
