Helio and the approaching content push on handhelds
The Helio launch today is a huge moment for wireless services and content providers. This could potentially be the start of something truly extraordinary. I’ve been going on about how the entire experience on handhelds has been quite static and drab for some time now - well, I think with the launch of some of the Helio devices and the specialized software that runs on them, that pet peeve could be a thing of the past.
Helio is attempting to truly revolutionize the way we use the net on our handhelds and bring not just a? productivity focus but a lifestyle focus to handheld usage. Until today that was missing. What the Helio team should do is focus on a grass-roots approach (much like Skype) and get people to adopt their devices and their MVNO service slowly - this will also give them a chance to consolidate various air-share agreements with large providers and grow organically. I believe that they can advertise and play to the wants of a specific target market (especially the 15-35 yrs) age group who will be able to identify with the new interfaces, content and lifestyle services they have to offer and be willing to pay a premium for the services.
If the framework that they set in place is one that looks into the future - we could see external content and service providers add onto the Helio services and the content will be more diverse and much richer which will inturn attract more users.
